Option 1: Go for broke and get Yandle
Option 2: Get a veteran for cheap - Hejda, Michalek, Zidlicky, etc.
Option 3: Stand pat. Team has shown it can compete with anybody. |

1. Go for broke wouldn't involve Yandle, IMO.
It would have to be Big Buff from the Jets.

That would be a good option too, but he seems to be prone to mistakes. |

That's how offensive guys are though. Pair him with DDK and he's fine. |

The one clearly available rental forward I wanted is already off the board (Jagr). I would still be in favor of a Zidlicky rental if the price is reasonable.
Of the "long-term upgrades" that might be available, the only one that really compels me is Yandle. I tend to think he is very underrated (I'm almost certain he's better than Kronwall, not to mention he's six years younger) and his reputation for being a defensive liability is unfounded -- it seems that in the NHL today any offensively talented defender deployed in an attacking role automatically gets branded "bad in his own zone" even if there's no evidence to suggest it. |

sounds like NYR have landed Yandle.
I was really hoping Holland would have gotten him. |

I still think the wings need just as much help up front as they do on defense. We have Oulette and Marchenko both ready to step in. The only guy who is playing too much is Ericsson and it would cost kings ransom to get a replacement. Perhaps we would be better off pack again some Dmen for a forward and then trying our luck in the offseason. I know I've proposed this a few times but
Jurco, smith, Oulette and a pick for eberle....they get a top 6 forward in Jurco, smith who could use a change of scenery, and a really good d prospect, plus a pick... Then idk what it would take to get Zidlicky but grab him to round out our defense
My thought us that helm can't play top 6...I love his hard work and determination but he doesn't put up top 6 pts and has 0 finishing...having that guy torch players on the third line would be unreal.

Don't know a lot about Duclair but does that mean it would have taken Ericsson, Mantha and a first? |

you know, I actually thought Holland was going to do it.... losing out on Yandle, IMO will also cost us a coach. I think Babcock is tired of the same thing as us fans really. |

Why watch then just complain about them all the time? Holland makes a trade and they paid too much...holland stands pat and everyone wants a blockbuster trade. I don't understand |

thats because he did (frank)ing pay to much to get david legwand.
yandle is exactly what the team needed.

He's left handed so no...not exactly. But what would you give up to get yandle? What would be your proposal? I'm not trying to come off as an ass lol I'm just curious |

nope. When most fans get exited about the deadline tomorrow, it must suck being a wing fan knowing the odds is that nothing will happen.

As far as pure rentals (i.e., would be gone after the end of the playoffs) go, even at 43 Jagr was probably the best forward available. Scores half a point per game or better despite reduced minutes on a crap team, and is still a great possession player. |

Yandle would have costed us atleast Mantha + one of our D prospects and a first.
Maybe something less if we took on his entire salary but not likely since Phoenix isn't anywhere close to the cap.
Defense really isn't this teams issue at the moment and while they can upgrade that portion of the game has been solid this season. If it looked like Quincey was going to have the surgery I believe Holland would have made a substantial push.
The need right now is a forward that can replace Franzen's size. Someone like Steward out of Buffalo would do well on this team adding a big abrasive forward. He's had so much potential and hasn't fulfilled it so maybe on a solid roster he could make some noise. |

Yandle is NOT what this team needs. The dude is -55 in the past two seasons (AZ not the best team in the world-admittedly) and that is despite all the points he puts up. And he is left handed. I would count on Yandle coughing up the puck in playoffs before I would count on him scoring a goal. Over payment for such a defensive liability if you ask me....sorry just my 2 cents..... |

I don't think you're out of line at all. Everyone that is available is being inflated because of the lack of options. None of these options are worth giving up our future. As has been said we have way more NHL ready dmen in grand rapids than forwards. With Helm out, and playing a line above his skill...I wouldn't mind trying to get Cole or Stewart for cheap. Someone with some scoring grit to fill out our top 6. Guys like Tatar and Goose seems to get squeezed out when the play gets heavy. Could use Abby plus another to play on the top two lines |

Seems a bit much for a rental like Cole. I get Backman since he left to go back to Sweden but giving up Janmark seems a bit pricey since they also swap a 2nd for a 3rd round pick. Either Helm is more injured than we know or Franzen is done and not likely coming back. |
